An open letter to all Local Authorities in Ireland

25th February 2016
Subject: Homelessness and addressing Families housed in emergency accommodation.

A Chara,
Right2Homes is a not-for-profit organisation (Charity status pending) which endeavours to support and assist families who find themselves for various reasons either faced with imminent loss of the family home or having already lost their family home.
Most of these families are forced into the private rental accommodation sector and more are housed in emergency accommodation in B&B’s and Hotel’s.
Right2Homes recognises the challenges faced by this recent government and the new government following the impending general election, in the area of Social Housing provision, we also feel strongly that not enough has been done over the recent years, during the much heralded recovery, to address these issues.
With this in mind, and faced with increasing numbers of families either homeless or in temporary, emergency accommodation, in unsuitable circumstances, Right2Homes has brought together all the required elements,
•    Funding,
•    Project Management

Immediately following that hearing I initiated an appeal to various representative bodies and the general public at large, this Appeal has not been successful, in the main because I simply could not garner the support of the media and the various representative bodies to assist by raising awareness.

Home repossessions report before election political ‘dynamite’

Right 2Homes says legal moves under way to prevent banks speeding up repossessions

OECD secretary general Angel Gurría: the OECD report said repossessions in Ireland should be accelerated and “repossession of collateral on non-performing loans is inefficient”. Photograph: Eric Luke

A report encouraging banks to speed up home repossessions in advance of the election “is dynamite” politically, said campaign group Right2Homes.

One of a number of groups campaigning for legal protection for home owners, Right2Homes is crowd-funding a constitutional challenge to the legislation which underpins repossessions of family homes.

Co-founder of Right 2Homes, businessman Brian Reilly, said the group was briefing the main political parties and had been invited to meet Fianna Fail politicians to discuss home protection schemes, when news of the OECD report came through.
